Mehr als 2000 Jahre sind vergangen, seit die Kelten in der Gegend des Basler St.-Johann-Werkareals gelebt haben. Mit der Gründung der Chemischen Fabrik Kern & Sandoz 1886 setzte an gleicher Stelle eine dynamische industrielle Entwicklung ein, die über die Farbenproduktion und die spätere Herstellung von Medikamenten bis zum heutigen Campus des Wissens von Novartis führt. In seiner Darstellung greift Walter Dettwiler, Leiter des Novartis Firmenarchivs, die verschiedenen Epochen dieser Entwicklung auf.
