Marcel Tanner fell in love with nature and the natural sciences early on in his life. As he advanced through his career, he not only made crucial findings in the infectious disease arena but would go on to reform the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, helping create a research and public health center of world renown. A strong proponent of mutual learning between the cultures, his insatiable curiosity and willingness to change the world for the better started with nature walks with his grandfather and his first research trip to Africa.
