A traumatic childhood experience in her native Louisiana pushed Anastacia Awad towards science and teaching, where she was able to cope and fight the injustice and racism she went through in her life. But only after she nearly died did she combine these two strong impulses in her daily work and she decided to lead the diversity and inclusion efforts of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research.
