Guillaume Canaud from the Necker Institute in Paris started his career as a nephrologist but always kept an eye on fundamental research. His exceptional career as a physician-scientist not only led him to breakthrough findings that paved the way for to the development of a new treatment for a rare disease. It also showed that the compassionate use programs of Novartis can make a difference to patients all around the world.
